Ribwort Stilt

Aspilapteryx tringipennella

Description

Wingspan 10 to 13mm. A pale buffy moth with a row of black spots along its ventral surface that often sits on a leaf with its front end raised and its rear end resting on the leaf.

Habitat

Open ground and grassland, field margins, brown-field sites. The larvae mine the leaves of Ribwort Plantain.

Status and distribution

Common and widespread throughout Britain. Common in Nottinghamshire and at Netherfield Lagoons.

Best time to see

May and August.
