Description

Wingspan 17 to 19mm. Pale buff to grey with small dark spots on the fore-wings.

Habitat

Damp grasslands and heaths. The larva is thought to feed on mosses or lichens on the ground.

Status and distribution

Common and widespread in England, especially East Anglia. Fairly common in Wales but less well recorded in Scotland. Scarce in Nottinghamshire and recorded once at Netherfield Lagoons.

Best time to see

June to July.
