Common Purple and Gold

Pyrausta purpuralis

Description

Wingspan 19 - 21mm. The fore-wings are purple with gold blotches and lines. The hind-wings are dark brown with creamy lines.

Habitat

Grasslands, where the larvae feed on plants from the Lamiaceae family.

Status and distribution

Common and widespread throughout most of Britain. Common in Nottinghamshire and at Netherfield Lagoons.

Best time to see

April to August.
