Meadow Grey

Description

Wingspan 17 to 22mm. A beautifully but variably marked moth with wavy cream lines and warm brown blotches across a grey background.

Habitat

Grassland and open ground. The larvae are thought to feed on rotting vegetation.

Status and distribution

Common and widespread through most of England and Wales, though not so common in the West Country, and thinly distributed in Scotland. Common in Nottinghamshire and recorded once at Netherfield Lagoons.

Best time to see

June and July.
