Description

Wingspan 27mm. A light brown moth with a buff stripe along the length of its fore-wing, which branches towards the tip.

Habitat

Grassy areas, in woodland, meadows, heaths. The food plants are various grasses where it feeds towards the stem base inside a silken cocoon.

Status and distribution

Common and widespread throughout most of Britain. Common in Nottinghamshire and at Netherfield Lagoons.

Best time to see

July to September.
