Burdock Conch

Aethes rubigana

Description

Wingspan 15 - 19mm. The dark saddle, dark blotches edged in black towards the rear and series of dark marks along the front edge of the fore-wing are diagnostic of this species.

Habitat

The larvae feed on the seedheads of Burdock.

Status and distribution

Local but fairly widespread in England and Wales, less common in Scotland.  Fairly common in Nottinghamshire and recorded at Netherfield Lagoons.

Best time to see

June to August.
