Description
Wingspan 40mm. A large moth with mother-of-pearl wings with a thick, dark brown border.
Habitat
Found in a wide range of habitats, woodland edge, parks and gardens, brown field sites. The larvae feed on Box and can be a pest to horticulture.
Status and distribution
A recent, invasive species which originated in Asia. Now fairly common and widespread in southern Britain and rapidly spreading northwards. Becoming common in Nottinghamshire and recorded once at Netherfield Lagoons.
Best time to see
July to September.
