Pine Cone Bug

Gastrodes grossipes

Description

Over all length 6 to 7mm. A dark brown and black bug that has a fairly broad, flattened body. The first segment of the antennae projects forwards, beyond the length of the head.

Habitat

Coniferous forests in pine trees, the main food plant.

Status and distribution

Fairly common and widespread throughout Britain. Common in Nottinghamshire and recorded at Netherfield Lagoons in one of its two young pine trees.

Best time to see

All year.
