Elasmucha grisea

Description

Body length 7 - 9mm. A very variable species with a mixture of cream, reddish/brown and black markings. The lateral abdominal margin is banded black and cream or reddish, and there is a large dark mark on the scutellum. Adults display parental care of eggs and young nymphs.

Habitat

Woodland edge and parks on Birch or Alder.

Status and distribution

Common and widespread in Britain, although commonest in the south. Common and widespread in Nottinghamshire. Recorded three times at Netherfield Lagoons.

Best time to see

April to November.
