Pilophorus perplexus

Description

Over all length 4.5mm. A dark brown or blackish bug with fine white lines across the elytra, and brown legs.

Habitat

Usually found in deciduous trees, particularly Oak, where they hunt aphids.

Status and distribution

Mainly confined to southern, eastern and midland counties, with few records from the West Country, Wales, the north of England or Scotland. Fairly common and widespread in Nottinghamshire and recorded once from Netherfield Lagoons.

Best time to see

July to October.
