Plagiognathus arbustorum

Description

Body length 4mm. A dark, black and olive green species. The head and scutellum are black and the wing cases are dark olive with paler tips and dark wing membranes. The hind femora have dark margins which are a useful identification feature.

Habitat

Found on a range of low herbaceous plants, especially nettles, where it feeds by sucking the sap.

Status and distribution

Common and widespread in Britain. Common in Nottinghamshire and at Netherfield Lagoons.

Best time to see

July to October.
