Stenodema calcarata

Description

Over all length 7 - 8mm. One of three very similar Stenodema species. The male is straw-coloured but in spring, when they mate, the female turns pale green. The pronotum is coarsely and densely pitted and has a longitudinal groove. The hind femora each have two spurs.

Habitat

Dry grassland where adults and nymphs feed on developing grass seeds.

Status and distribution

Common and widespread throughout Britain. Common in Nottinghamshire and at Netherfield Lagoons.

All year.
