Ant Damsel Bug
Himacerus mirmicoides
Description
Over all length 7 - 8mm. The connexivum (lateral abdominal margin) is black and red and the wings are short, but longer than in Himacerus apterus. The nymph is ant-like.
Habitat
Normally found on or near the ground amongst low vegetation in dry areas. They prey on other small insects.
Status and distribution
Common and widespread in southern England and Wales. Common in Nottinghamshire and at Netherfield Lagoons.
Best time to see
All year.
