Description
Wingspan 72 - 92mm. Mostly greys and browns, the hind-wings have a large reddish/chestnut patch and are often held well in front of the fore-wings.
Habitat
A wide range of habitats where the larval food plants, poplars or willows, are growing.
Status and distribution
Widespread and fairly common throughout Britain. Common in Nottinghamshire and at Netherfield Lagoons.
Best time to see
May to August.
