Cantharis cryptica
Description
Over all length 7 - 8mm. Predominantly orange brown and very similar to C. pallida, but has some longer hairs on the elytra (wing cases) and dark rings on its hind femora.
Habitat
Woodlands and hedgerows. The adults feed on insects amongst foliage and the larvae feed on invertebrates in the soil.
Status and distribution
Common and widespread in England and Wales, less so in Scotland. It is fairly common in Nottinghamshire and regularly found at Netherfield Lagoons.
Best time to see
May to July.
