Soldier Beetle
Cantharis decipiens
Description
Over all length 6 - 9mm. This is a pale brown species with a black head and has a black pronotum with brown sides.
Habitat
Woodlands and hedgerows. The adults and larvae feed on other insects, the adults often on flowers and the larvae in the soil.
Status and distribution
Common and widespread in England and Wales, though less so in the West Country, and uncommon in Scotland. Fairly common in Nottinghamshire and at Netherfield Lagoons.
Best time to see
May to July.
