White-legged Cordilura

Cordilura albipes

Description

Over all length 7 to 8mm. The thorax is glossy black from above, with pale yellowish sides. The legs are pale and the head dull orange with red eyes. The abdomen is mainly black.

Habitat

Damp grasslands, woodlands, marshes, often near water.

Status and distribution

Widespread, though not common, throughout Britain. Uncommon in Nottinghamshire and recorded twice at Netherfield Lagoons.

Best time to see

April to August.
