Cordilura ciliata
Description
Wing length 6 to 8mm. A large, shiny black species with long, all black legs. The male has fringes of pale hairs along the front femora.
Habitat
Wetlands and marshes, reed-beds where sedges are frequent. Woodlands where Pendulous sedge grows. the larvae develop within the stems of the sedges.
Status and distribution
Fairly common in England and Wales but less so in Scotland. Fairly frequent in Nottinghamshire and recorded at Netherfield Lagoons.
Best time to see
April to August.
