Tachina fera
Description
Over all length 10 - 14mm. The head and thorax are dark, marked with brown streaking. The scutelum is rich brown. The abdomen is orange with a broad, black line down the centre and very hairy. The veins at the wing bases are tinged orange.
Habitat
Woodland edge and hedgerows.
Status and distribution
It is quite common and widespread in England and Wales, rarer further north. Commonly found on the reserve.
Best time to see
May to September.
