Tachinid Fly
Carcelia lucorum
Description
Over all length 8 - 10mm. This is a mostly buff fly with a black cross on the abdomen and black stripes on the thorax.
Habitat
Woodland edge, hedgerows, brown-field sites. The main hosts are Tiger Moth caterpillars.
Status and distribution
Fairly widespread in southern England, getting more scarce further north and in Scotland. Uncommon in Nottinghamshire and recorded three times at Netherfield Lagoons.
Best time to see
May to August.
