Description

Over all length 8mm. This is a grey and black species with two dark marks down its thorax and red eyes.

Habitat

Normally found near livestock on which it feeds. It can give very nasty bites. Can be seen feeding from umbelliferous flowers. The larvae feed in damp organic matter.

Status and distribution

Mostly limited to England and Wales. One record for the reserve.
