Description
Over all length 4.5 - 5mm. Has red eyes and a metallic green thorax and abdomen. The front femora and antennae are black.
Habitat
Can be seen along hedgerows and open areas in woodland. Its larvae feed on decomposing organic matter.
Status and distribution
Common and widespread in the southern part of the British Isles, less so further north. Common and regularly seen at the reserve.
Best time to see
March to October.
