Description
Wing length 8.5 - 10mm. A bumblebee mimic which comes in a variety of colour forms.
Habitat
Woodland edge and hedgerows. Its larvae feed on the bulbs of several species of flowers.
Status and distribution
Fairly widespread in Britain but nowhere numerous. Found from time to time on the reserve.
Best time to see
May to September.
