Description
Body length 7 - 8mm. Members of this genus have a metallic green thorax and tapering abdomen. There are several very similar species.
Habitat
Damp woodland. The Riverside Path and Lower Path at Netherfield Lagoons are popular with these flies.
Status and distribution
Fairly common and widespread in Britain but getting less common towards the north. Common in Nottinghamshire.
Best time to see
May to August.
