Calliopum aeneum
Description
Over all length 3.5 to 4.5mm. A small metallic fly with long brown-tinted wings.
Habitat
Hedgerows, woodland edge and meadows. The larvae are thought to be leaf-miners or to feed in detritus in leaf litter.
Status and distribution
Fairly common and widespread in central and southern England. Less common else where in Britain. Fairly common in Nottinghamshire and recorded occasionally at Netherfield Lagoons.
Best time to see
May to September.
