Orange-legged Boxer
Platycheirus fulviventris
Description
Wing length 6 - 7.5mm. A very orange species with extensive orange patches on the abdomen and orange legs. The male's front tarsi broaden abruptly.
Habitat
Well vegetated ditches and waterside margins especially with Reed Sweet-grass. The larvae feed on aphids.
Status and distribution
Mainly southern and local where it occurs. Not common in Nottinghamshire but recorded regularly at Netherfield Lagoons.
Best time to see
April to September.
