House Fly
Hydrotaea dentipes
Description
Over all length 8mm. A dark, blackish fly with a paler grey abdomen, red eyes and brownish wings.
Habitat
Woodland edge and hedgerows. The larvae develop in dung.
Status and distribution
Fairly common and widespread in England and Wales, less so in Scotland. Fairly common in Nottinghamshire and at Netherfield Lagoons.
Best time to see
August to October.
