Description
Over all length 7 - 9mm. A large, brownish fly with darker markings. The scutellum is orange/brown.
Habitat
Hedgerows and woodland edge. Larvae feed in leaf litter.
Status and distribution
Fairly common and widespread through most of Britain.
Best time to see
April to November.
