Description
Over all length 7 - 8mm. The thorax and abdomen are grey, heavily marked with black.
Habitat
Waterside vegetation in marshy or other damp places. This is a member of a group called Hunter Flies, where the adults prey on other insects.
Status and distribution
Widely but thinly distributed across southern Britain. Uncommon in Nottinghamshire but regular at Netherfield Lagoons.
Best time to see
May to August.
