Description

Over all length 8 - 10mm. A very orange dung-fly, with an orange/grey abdomen and orange legs.

Habitat

Damp woodland rides, marshy areas.  The larvae form galls in the stems of dock.

Status and distribution

Fairly common and well distributed over England and Wales with fewer records from the West Country and few from Scotland. Fairly common in Nottinghamshire and at Netherfield Lagoons.

Best time to see

April to October.
