Brown Sieve-winged Snailkiller

Description

Body length 7 - 9mm. A brown bodied snailkiller with all brown legs. The eyes are red with two pale bars. The antenae are brown with white aristas. The wings are brown with a dense pattern of white spots.

Habitat

Grasslands and open vegetated spaces. The larvae are thought to feed on land snails.

Status and distribution

Fairly widespread but uncommon in the southern half of Britain but recorded much less further north. This species is declining and uncommon in Nottinghamshire, recorded twice at Netherfield Lagoons.
