Description

Body length 12 to 14 mm. The thorax and abdomen are grey with black linear markings. The legs are black.

Habitat

Woodland edge, hedgerows in damp areas. The adults feed on nectar and small flies.

Status and distribution

Fairly common and widespread in Britain. Uncommon in Nottinghamshire and at Netherfield Lagoons.

Best time to see

May to September.
