Description

Wingspan 17 - 26mm. A dark brown moth with a white crescent on its fore-wings. The crescent can vary in shape and sometimes joins up with the pale patches on the wing-tips.

Habitat

Rough ground, field edges and brown-field sites. The food plant is Mugwort.

Status and distribution

Fairly common in southern Britain, especially Norfolk. Common in Nottinghamshire and at Netherfield Lagoons.

Best time to see

June to July.
