Endothenia gentianaeana

Description

Wingspan 15 - 19mm. This is a variable species and there are several very similar ones which may need microscopic examination to determine the species. Endothenia gentianaeana is generally slightly larger with more violet markings on the forewings.

Habitat

Hedgerows, rough ground and brown-field sites where teasel is common.

Status and distribution

Fairly common and widespread in England and Wales. Common in Nottinghamshire and at Netherfield Lagoons.

Best time to see

May to August.
