Autographa gamma

Description

Wingspan 32 - 52mm. The wings are patterned with mottled shades of brown and near the centre of each fore-wing is a silver y-shaped mark. 

Habitat

Common in a variety of habitats including woodland edge, hedgerows, grasslands, gardens and waste ground. The caterpillars feed on a wide variety of herbaceous plants, including nettles, clovers and bedstraws.

Status and distribution

Common and widespread throughout Britain. The numbers are augmented each summer with immigrants from the continent. Common and widespread in Nottinghamshire and at Netherfield Lagoons.

May to September.
