Description

Wingspan 35mm. The male is mid-grey with a light scattering of black spots. The female is white with a light scattering of black spots. There are fewer spots than the similar ermines have.

Habitat

Scrubby areas or open woodland. The caterpillars feed on dock and dandelions

Status and distribution

Common and widespread in England and Wales, local in Scotland. Common in Nottinghamshire and at Netherfield Lagoons.

Best time to see

May to June.
