Leopard Moth
Zeuzera pyrina
Description
Wingspan 35 to 60mm. The moth is white and closely marked with black spots. The larva is pale with dark spots and black first and last segments the head capsule is brown. When ready to pupate the body becomes darker.
Habitat
Woodland and trees. The larvae feed on the wood.
Status and distribution
Fairly widespread but not common in the southern half of Britain. Uncommon in Nottinghamshire and infrequent at Netherfield Lagoons.
Best time to see
June to July.
