Nemophora cupriacella

Description

Wingspan 12 to 16 mm. The wings are metallic, showing green, copper and purple. The antennae are long and flattened, black at the base changing to white half-way along.

Habitat

Dry, grassy areas. The larvae feed on species of scabious.

Status and distribution

Local, mostly in the south but less commonly further north. Uncommon in Nottinghamshire and recorded once at Netherfield Lagoons.

Best time to see

June to July.
