Buff-tip
Phalera bucephala
Description
Wingspan 55 - 68mm. A grey moth with a buff-tip to the wings, looking very much like a broken off twig.
Habitat
The larvae feed on sallow, birch, hazel or oak. The adults cannot feed but may come to light.
Status and distribution
Common and widespread throughout most of Englan, Wales and lowland Scotland. Common in Nottinghamshire and at Netherfield Lagoons.
Best time to see
May to August.
