Water Skater
Aquarius paludum
Description
Over all length 14 to 16mm. There is a thin yellow line along the side of the pronotum and the male has two spines that reach the tip of the abdomen, which distinguish this species from A. najas and size distinguishes these two species from all other water skaters.
Habitat
Prefers still water, on small ponds, lakes and streams.
Status and distribution
Mainly confined to the south east of England but slowly pushing north. Uncommon in Nottinghamshire and recorded twice at Netherfield Lagoons.
