Description

Body length 9mm. A startling, red and black species. There are some similar bugs called Firebugs, Pyrrhocoris, so care should be taken with identification.

Habitat

Hedgerows and rough vegetation. 

Status and distribution

Recently expanded its range from south eastern and coastal to move inland and northwards. Is now distributed over much of southern Britain. Fairly common in Nottinghamshire and regular at Netherfield Lagoons.

Best time to see

May to September.
