Bronze Shieldbug

Troilus luridus

Description

Length 10 to 12mm. A large, dull brown shieldbug with yellow or orange and brown connexivum, orange bands on its antennae but no orange tip to the scutellum.

Habitat

Woodland and shady hedgerows. Both adults and nymphs are predators on small insects.

Status and distribution

Uncommon but widely distributed throughout southern Britain. Uncommon in Nottinghamshire and recorded once at Netherfield Lagoons.

Best time to see

All year.
