Description
Over all length 14mm. A large dark blowfly with a metallic blue abdomen. The body and femora are covered with bristles.
Habitat
Widespread over a range of habitats. The adults can often be seen on sunny days in the winter, basking on a wall or tree trunk. The larvae feed on carrion.
Status and distribution
Common and widespread in Britain. Common in Nottinghamshire and at Netherfield Lagoons.
