Liophloeus tesselatus

Description

Over all length 13 - 15mm. This is a large weevil with well marked elytra but the patterning unfortunately wears off as the insect ages.

Habitat

The adults are sometimes associated with Ivy and the larvae feed on the roots of various umbelliferous plants, such as Hogweed.

Status and distribution

Fairly common in England and Wales but gets scarcer further north. Common in Nottinghamshire and regular at Netherfield Lagoons.

Best time to see

April to July.
