St. John’s Wort Beetle

Cryptocephalus moraei


Over all length 3 - 5mm. A small black beetle with yellow markings. The markings vary a little, with some more heavily marked than others.


The adults feed on the flowers and leaves of Perforated St. John's Wort.

Status and distribution

Fairly common and widespread in southern Britain. Uncommon in Nottinghamshire and recorded once at Netherfield Lagoons.

Best time to see

May to August.
