Description
Body length 4 to 6.5mm. This is a small dark beetle, often with a coppery sheen, and large, bulging eyes. There are eight very similar species, with the commonest being N. biguttatus.
Habitat
Woodland, grasslands and gardens. They prey on springtails and other small leaf-litter inhabitants.
Status and distribution
Common and widespread throughout Britain. Common in Nottinghamshire and recorded once at Netherfield Lagoons.
Best time to see
April to September.
