Description

Over all length 4 - 7.5mm. A pale brown weevil with a long snout. There are several similar species so care must be taken to get to species. In the second set of pictures the brown scales are partly worn off to expose the black beneath.

Habitat

The larvae feed inside acorns, so the adults are never far from Oak trees.

Status and distribution

Mainly restricted to the South East, East Anglia and the Midlands. Fairly common in Nottinghamshire and scarce at Netherfield Lagoons.

Best time to see

April to June.
