2-spot Ladybird

Adalia bipunctata

Description

Over all length 3 - 6mm. Typically red with two black spots but variable and could be black with red spots and the number of spots varies too. The legs are black.

Habitat

A wide range of habitats are used. Rank hedgerow vegetation with plenty of aphid prey is popular.

Status and distribution

Very common and widespread in England and Wales, confined to the lowlands in Scotland. Common in Nottinghamshire and at Netherfield Lagoons.

Best time to see

March to November.
