Figwort Mason Wasp
Symmorphus gracilis
Description
Over all length 7 to 12mm. Black with yellow markings. The male may have less yellow on the abdomen than the female.
Habitat
Woodland and gardens. Often associated with Figwort, where the females collect Cionus weevils to feed their larvae.
Status and distribution
Common and widely distributed throughout south-eastern Britain. Less well recorded in Nottinghamshire and recorded once at Netherfield Lagoons.
Best time to see
May to August.
