Argogorytes fargeii

Description

Body length 10 - 12mm. A black wasp with yellow markings. There are three yellow bands on the abdomen and the legs are yellow.

Habitat

Open sites including gravel pits and river valleys. The females catch froghopper nymphs to stock their nest chambers with.

Status and distribution

Rare and thinly scattered over south-eastern Britain. Uncommon in Nottinghamshire and recorded twice at Netherfield Lagoons.

Best time to see

May to August.
